How NCA Fees Affect a R5,000 Loan

Under the National Credit Act, the once-off initiation fee on a R5,000 unsecured loan is capped at R165 plus 10% of the amount above R1,000 (R565 excl. VAT, or R649.75 incl. 15% VAT), and never more than 15% of the principal debt.

Because the flat R69 monthly service fee applies every month the loan remains active, repaying a R5,000 loan over 12 months instead of 24 or 36 months significantly reduces your total cost of credit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pay off a R5,000 loan early without penalty?

Yes. Under Section 125 of the National Credit Act, you may settle a R5,000 credit agreement at any time with zero early settlement penalty, saving on future interest and monthly R69 service fees.
